Community Assembly of East Yorkshire
Serving, supporting and protecting our local communities
About Us
The Community Assembly of East Yorkshire is located in the East Riding of Yorkshire, often abbreviated to the East Riding or East Yorkshire. It is a ceremonial county in the Yorkshire and Humber regions bordering on North Yorkshire to the north and west, South Yorkshire to the south-west, and Lincolnshire to the south across the Humber Estuary.
The city of Kingston upon Hull is the largest settlement. In 2024 the county had a population of 631,285 which is just slightly higher than Cornwall.
From around 2000 to 800 BC, the people of the Bronze Age built the 1,400 round barrows that are known to exist on the Yorkshire Wolds. These are found both in isolation and grouped together to form cemeteries. Many of these sites can still be seen as prominent features in the present-day landscape.
By the later Bronze Age, an open, cleared, landscape predominated on the Wolds. It was used for grazing and also for arable cultivation. The wetlands on either side of the Wolds in the River Hull Valley, Holderness and the Vale of York, were also being used for animal rearing at this time. The area became the kingdom of the tribe known as the Parisi. After invading Britain in AD 43, the Romans crossed the Humber Estuary in AD 71 to invade the Parisi tribe's territory. From their bridgehead at Petuaria they travelled northwards and built roads along the Wolds to Derventio, present-day Malton, and then westwards to the River Ouse where they built the fort of Eboracum.
Community Assemblies are made up of residents concerned about a lack of democratic process at a local and national level, dedicated to preserving and asserting our inalienable rights and obligations to ourselves, the Earth and future.
