Community Assembly of Crediton
Serving, supporting and protecting our local community
About Us

The Community Assembly of Crediton is located in a town situated in the narrow vale of the River Creedy, between two steep hills and is divided into two parts, the north or old town and the south and east or new town.

Crediton is reported to be the Birthplace of St Boniface.  In the Doomsday survey of 1086 the land in the Crediton area was listed as uncultivated, however, by 1306 the town had been established and was starting to grow.

The wool trade was established by 1249, and the manufacture and trading of woollen cloth, especially serge, peaked in the 16th century when the town reached the height of its prosperity. The woollen textile trade declined after the mid 18th century.

Community Assemblies are made up of residents concerned about a lack of democratic process at a local and national level, dedicated to preserving and asserting our inalienable rights and obligations to ourselves, the Earth and future generations.
